Reggie’s Bio

Singer, songwriter, worship leader, husband and father are all terms that can be used to describe Reggie Lovorn. Born and raised on a small farm in rural east-central Mississippi, He says that church and family were the two things that influenced him most during his days as a youth.

“Our entire world as a family revolved around what was happening at Harmony Baptist Church there in the Nanih Waiya community,” says Reggie. “My Father was the Sunday school director and he and my mother worked tirelessly with the youth at church. I learned very early the importance of being committed to the work of the body of Christ.”

His first opportunities in music came as a result of involvement in the church’s children and youth choirs. He also was able to learn a great deal about singing and harmony by attending those Sunday afternoon singings that feature the great songs from the shaped-note hymnals. Around the age of 13, he became part of a youth ensemble that was sponsored by a church volunteer. They had a standing engagement at the local radio station to perform the 3rd Sunday morning of every month. “Everyone should have the opportunity to perform live on the radio at 7:00 AM on Sunday morning,” Reggie says with a laugh.

Reggie became a Christian at a young age, and for several years felt that God wanted him to do more in the field of church music. Since then he has tried to remain faithful to that calling. He has been actively involved in music ministry for the past 27 years. During that time he has served as minister of music at local churches, done music evangelism work for church revivals, and for 19 years he has been a part of the Southern Gospel music trio, 2ND Mile. 2ND Mile has traveled throughout the southeastern part of the country performing at many different types of venues. To find out more about 2ND Mile and individual group members go to the 2ND Mile page of the web site.

Songwriting is another important part of Reggie’s ministry. Not only does he write most of the music that 2ND Mile records, but his work has been recorded by a number of professional Southern Gospel Music artists.
